Pupil-Led Book Clubs

Our pupil-led book club, set up and run by a passionate Year 6 pupil, is a wonderful initiative that encourages a love of reading for pleasure in upper KS2. She has created a space where children are invited to join in during lunchtime to share their favourite books, discuss exciting stories, and discover new ones. The club has quickly become a popular time to gather, fostering friendships through shared reading experiences and inspiring all children to embrace the joy of books. We are proud of the leadership shown and the positive impact it's having on our pupils' love of reading!

Oxfordshire Book Prize 2025

Our Year 1 children are thoroughly enjoying reviewing the picture books shortlisted for the Oxfordshire Book Prize, immersing themselves in colourful illustrations and imaginative stories. Meanwhile, Year 5 pupils are diving into the older junior novels, engaging with more complex narratives and characters. Both year groups are eagerly discussing their favourite books, sharing their thoughts on what makes each story stand out, and developing their critical thinking skills. Thanks to the support of Magdalen College School, who kindly provided the shortlisted books, our pupils are having a fantastic time exploring a range of exciting titles and participating in this wonderful literary event.

The Royal Society Young People's Book Prize '25

Our Year 6 pupils are excited to be participating in the Royal Society Young People's Book Prize, where they are reading and reviewing a selection of outstanding STEM books. As they explore fascinating topics in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, they are developing a deeper understanding of what makes exceptional non-fiction. The children are eagerly sharing their ideas, discussing what engages and inspires them in these books, and reflecting on how best to present complex topics in an accessible and exciting way. We are proud to see their enthusiasm and insight as they contribute to this prestigious competition!

Young Quills Competition 25

We are thrilled that our children from Year 2 to Year 6 have been invited to take part in the Young Quills competition for The Historical Association. As part of this exciting opportunity, children are reading and reviewing historical fiction, engaging with different periods of history through captivating storytelling. There is a real buzz around school as pupils share their thoughts on the books, discuss historical themes, and develop their critical reading skills. We can't wait to see their reviews and celebrate their contributions to this prestigious competition!
