What to Expect in Year 5
Year 5 is a fantastic year at St Andrew’s, filled with exciting learning opportunities and new responsibilities. Children explore a rich and varied curriculum, engaging in fascinating topics that inspire curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. As they grow in confidence and independence, they also take on important roles within the school community, living out our Christian vision of Everyone is our neighbour. Whether helping to distribute fruit to KS1 classes or supporting younger pupils as reading buddies, Year 5 pupils lead by example, showing kindness and responsibility. With so much to discover and opportunities to develop leadership skills, Year 5 is a rewarding and memorable year.
The Year 5 Curriculum
Year 5 is an exciting and enriching year at St Andrew’s, where children continue to build their knowledge and skills across a broad and balanced curriculum. They explore fascinating topics such as the Ancient Greeks, deepening their understanding of history while making connections to the modern world. In English, they read inspiring texts like Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell, which spark their imagination and develop their love of reading. Across all subjects, from science to art, computing to PE, learning is engaging, challenging, and designed to prepare children for the increasing expectations of Year 6. With opportunities for discussion, creativity, and problem-solving, the Year 5 curriculum nurtures confident, inquisitive learners ready for the next stage of their journey.
