What to Expect in Year 6
Year 6 is a truly special time at St Andrew’s. As the oldest children in the school, our Year 6 pupils take on important responsibilities, such as being a "lunch-bite listener" or a "hi-viz helper" at lunchtimes, or undertaking duties such as setting up for assemblies or taking the lunch trolleys down to the canteen. Year 6 children are expected to set an excellent example for the younger years, living out our Christian vision of Everyone is different; everyone is special. They work hard, achieving highly across the curriculum while also preparing for the transition to secondary school—developing the independence, resilience, and confidence they will need for the next stage of their education. Through their leadership roles and daily interactions, they show care, respect, and kindness, demonstrating that everyone is our neighbour. But Year 6 isn’t just about hard work! There is plenty of fun to be found throughout the year, but the final term in particular is packed with exciting events, from putting on a production to a week-long residential and a range of special activities. It’s a year full of challenge, growth, and unforgettable memories, where children truly shine as the best versions of themselves.
The Year 6 Curriculum
At St Andrew’s, our Year 6 pupils continue to access a broad and balanced curriculum throughout their final year. While we support them in preparing for their SATs, we are committed to ensuring that their learning experience remains rich and varied. Alongside core subjects, children enjoy a full curriculum, including art, music, PE, French, computing, and humanities. Engaging topics, hands-on learning, and opportunities for creativity ensure that Year 6 remains exciting and inspiring. Our approach means that children leave St Andrew’s not only well-prepared for their assessments but also equipped with the knowledge, skills, and curiosity they need for secondary school and beyond.
