Sport at St Andrew's

Internal opportunities:

In addition to two hours of Physical Education as part of the curriculum within the school day, there are many opportunities for being active and developing sporting skills. These include sports set up for lunch time (hockey, basketball, tennis, football) by our PE Assistant; Year 6s and an HLTA leading lunch time clubs (such as football skills and badminton); Year 6s trained to be sports leaders and running multi-skills events for younger pupils; and after school activities, such as judo, football and hockey. As part of the National Curriculum requirement, swimming teaching takes place in Year 4, with the summer term used to support those in Years 4, 5 and 6 who have not yet met the requirements. Our annual health and well-being week brings further opportunities for widening the experiences of physical activity, such as skipping, skateboarding and climbing.

External opportunities:

Many of the children in St Andrew's participate in various clubs at a local level, such as athletics, football, hockey, swimming and martial arts. When there are local sports opportunities, our PE subject lead organises groups of children to attend - these are a mixture of competitive and participation events:

  • Hockey festivals and competitions
  • Football festivals and competitions
  • Rugby festival and tag rugby
  • Headington Sports festival
  • Cross Country
